How often should I have a skin check?
At MoleMap Matamata, we recommend you get a professional skin check at least every 12 months. New Zealand has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world. This is why we recommend booking in a mole check at our Matamata skin cancer clinic annually. You’ll get a comprehensive skin check by one of our experienced melanographers. This will give you the best chance of detecting suspicious spots or moles early—when they’re most treatable.
What does a typical mole check involve?
Your Matamata mole check will involve a comprehensive skin examination by an experienced melanographer. They’ll check your skin from head to toe, including under your nails, the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet. Suspicious moles or lesions are photographed using a dermatoscope. This produces high-quality images that can be magnified. The images are sent electronically for dermatologist diagnosis. Within around 10 working days you’ll receive a full report and recommendation on the next steps, if action is needed.
