“At my annual full body skin exam, the melanographer found a small pin-sized spot on my ear and recommended I have it examined further. It turned out to be cancerous. If it wasn’t for MoleMap, it would have gone unnoticed.”

What are the early signs of melanoma?

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, as it can quickly spread. Yet, if it’s detected and treated early, the chance of a successful outcome is higher. Important changes in your skin to look for include:

  • colour — you may notice a mole has changed in colour or become blotchy
  • size — a mole change in size, typically growing bigger
  • shape — you may have a mole that’s irregular in shape and may not be symmetrical
  • elevation — a mole may develop a raised area
  • itching or bleeding
  •

How should I prepare for my Rotorua mole check?

Preparing for your appointment can help ensure the most accurate skin check. We recommend you:

  • do a self check and note down anything of concern
  • remove make-up, sunscreen, and nail polish
  • avoid using fake tan
  • wear clothing that’s easy to removed
  •

You’ll need to undress down to your underwear. Don’t worry, our friendly melanographers will ensure you feel relaxed throughout your appointment.
