Which mole check at MoleMap skin cancer clinic Palmerston North is right for me?
Full Body MoleMap is our most comprehensive skin cancer detection service. It includes an entire-body skin assessment along with total body photography and individual mole plotting. ‘At risk’ lesions will be proactively monitored over time. This means any changes will be quickly spotted. You also get unlimited free spot checks and re-imaging for 12 months, should you notice something new. This mole check service is ideal if you’re at medium to high-risk of skin cancer. It helps you to track and monitor your skin for early signs of skin cancer.
SkinCheck is a thorough, point-in-time head-to-toe assessment of your moles. Atypical lesions are imaged and sent for dermatologist diagnosis. This service is ideal if you have a small number of moles and want the reassurance that your skin is healthy. Or, if you’ve spotted a suspicious mole and want it checked out fast.
SkinCheck+ includes all the features of the SkinCheck, with the added benefit of full body photography. This gives you a baseline record of your skin, making it easier to see changes.

What treatments are used for skin cancer?
The most common treatment for skin cancer is surgery. This is where the cancerous lesion and some of the surrounding healthy skin is removed. This is usually done under a local anaesthetic.
Some superficial skin cancers can be treated topically with creams or gels. These are generally prescribed chemotherapy medicines that can be directly applied to the skin. Laser therapy is another form of skin cancer treatment. It uses a combination of a red-light, LED-light and a cream. The laser destroys the abnormal or cancerous cells without the need for surgical removal.
Cancer treatment will depend on the type and stage of cancer. Read more about skin cancer treatment. Following a skin cancer diagnosis, your dermatologist will explain your choices and guide you on the right skin cancer treatment for you. The good news is that if skin cancer is found early, the chance of successful treatment is very high.
