What will happen during my mole check in Whakatane?
Rest assured, our experienced and caring team at our skin cancer clinic Whakatane will ensure you feel relaxed and cared for. An experienced melanographer will perform a comprehensive head-to-toe skin check. From your scalp, face, and ears, including your front and back, to your arms, legs, and soles of your feet.
During a Full Body MoleMap and Skin Check+, we take a series of images of your whole body. These are used to map your moles. Going forward, it gives us (and you) a useful guide to detect anything new or changing.
We also take close-up images of any individual moles or lesions that fit a specific criteria. Using AI technology, these are cross-checked in real-time against MoleMap’s world-class image database. Any moles of concern and sent for dermatologist diagnosis.

What happens if a suspicious mole is detected at my Whakatane mole check?
If a suspicious mole is detected during your visit to our skin cancer clinic in Whakatane, it will be dermoscopically (under the skin) imaged and sent for dermatologist diagnosis. If skin cancer is suspected, a biopsy will usually be recommended. This is a small surgical procedure carried out under local anaesthetic. A sample of tissue is removed for testing. The skin sample is looked at under a microscope to check for skin cancer.
